It feels great to be back home in the U.S. and catching up with all the solid new music releases. And just when I was going through my must listen stack Anna sent me a text telling me Tyler Childers announced his new album.
I’ve been a fan of his music ever since I found him on YouTube posting acoustic songs that seemed improvised on the spot while his friends heckled.
According to Spotify’s pre save page, there will be 15 songs on Snipe Hunter. I was over the moon to see that the song available right now is my favorite Tyler song Nose On The Grindstone. It looks like the album will be released on July 25th.
Tyler recently played the Hollywood Bowl to rave views. An especially impactful performance was his impassioned delivery of Long Violent History. Some fans have speculated that the new traditional country Grammy category is to level the nomination field for organic artists like Tyler. We’ll know for sure with the first round of nominees.
Artist: Tyler Childers
Album: Snipe Hunter
Release Date: July 25th, 2025
Label: Hickman Holler/RCA
Artist: Ben Fuller
Album: Walk Through The Fire
Release date: June 6, 2025
Label: Provident
Ben Fuller is a contemporary christian artist as his true life story of kicking alcohol and finding redemption in his faith are at the core of his music. His major label debut single Who I Am soared to #1 and introduced the world to a powerful emotive voice that has been echoing on CCM radio stations since. Walk Through The Fire, his latest album will certainly cement Ben Fuller’s foothold in CCM, but I also hear 1-2 songs that have crossover potential In AC and Country.
The songs on Walk Through The Fire explore the less than perfect path to one’s faith. Ben, who had a hand in writing all the songs explores the struggle to be a better human. What is very clear is that even when he feels less than, there is strength and hope found in his faith. I listened to this album in its entirety after hearing the horrific and unpardonable news on Michael Tait. It made Fuller's album especially impactful.
Black Sheep is decidedly poignant:
“How’s that heart of stone
Not so hard when you’re alone..”
My favorite song on the album is Turn as it resonated with me on a deeper level:
“But you heard me through the tears..”
This is definitely a christian album as God and Jesus are mentioned everywhere. It is also an incredibly soulful album. It’s about a person’s inner struggles and how those struggles manifest or translate through their actions. In essence, the songs on this album are about what we do or choose not to do.
Like everything, life is full of choices. Even to believe is a choice. The title track showcases Fuller’s powerful resonant vocal range. Country fans will also enjoy the duet with Carrie Underwood on“If It Was Up To Me”.
Artist: Hayden Pedigo
Album: I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away
Release Date: June 6, 2025
Label: Mexican Summer
I think Hayden is to the guitar what Andreas Vollenweider is to the harp. The music is ethereal, and beautiful. Listening to the album, I could certainly see how the Panhandle Texas landscapes have inspired and shaped his artistry.
On this album Pedigo weaves ambient sounds and near classical styled finger patterns to create a sonic landscape that is both dreamy, lush and as fresh as the morning dew. For those that have been following the artist’s weighty musical output, this album is the last installment in his Motor Trilogy which features auto themed art by Jonathan Phillips.
When Pedigo wrote the album he was at a desolate ranch in Wyoming. It was so quiet that he could literally hear his blood running through his veins. A perfect breeding ground for inspired creativity and henceforth we are delighting in the fruits. I was listening to Led Zeppelin’s ThankYou before I gave the album a spin and couldn’t help hearing echoes of Jimmy Page in Smoked, which is my favorite track, so far.
Pedigo has attained a bit of notoriety due to his run for an Amarillo council seat. The notable public office attempt did not result in a win, but it did inspire the movie Kid Candidate. He also appeared on the Gucci catwalk for their 100th anniversary. I absolutely love this album, and hope you’ll give it a spin.
Artist: Teddy Swims
Album: I’ve Tried Everything, But Therapy (Complete Edition)
Release Date: June 27th, 2025
Label: Swims Int/Warner
What can we say about Teddy Swims? The voice, the songs, the style, it’s all there. Not to mention all the records he’s broken with the epic Lose Control, which is the song that introduced me to this incredibly talented singer.
Lose Control holds the record for the longest climb to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also the first song to spend a record breaking 92 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. AND Lose Control holds the record for the most weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 top 10. Way to go!
Mr. Swims new album will be out on June 27th, but we have several songs to listen to in the interim. His latest radio single is God Went Crazy. Teddy’s music is like a big pot of gumbo. There are a lot of ingredients in there, but it sure tastes good when it’s done. Stereogum called his music genre defying and I wholeheartedly agree. Pre Save his album. I can’t wait to hear it all the way through.
Artist: Turnpike Troubadours
Album: The Price Of Admission
Release Date: April 11th, 2025
Label: Bossier City/Thirty Tigers
The boys from Oklahoma are back with an album that harkens to the 2010’s. I heard them for the first time in a college bar close to Springfield. I had never heard of Red Dirt music, and no one was really listening until they played Diamonds and Gasoline. Still my favorite song from the band.
The Price Of Admission is a very strong album, and might be among my top three for the band. Mr. Felker is in top songwriting form and crafted interesting and compelling narratives throughout the album along w/ his bandmates. Two immediate stand outs are Searching For A Light and Heaven Passing Through.
This is the type of album you have to sit down and listen to the lyrics to catch what’s going on. The catchy melodies and tight arrangements are sure to keep folks on the sawdust floor and their glasses filled. But for those paying attention, you’ll find a sobering and honest look at adulting through the lived in lyrics of most of the songs.
It's been a hectic and beautiful year so far. I hope it's going great for you too. Oh, and before I forget, I just dropped a new video for the radio edit of Something Special. Check it out. Here’s the link:
