Quebec City, Canada

Quebec City, Canada

Old Quebec transforms into a European-style Christmas village.

Visit the German Christmas Market, take in the festive lights and decorations, and enjoy activities like sledding and ice skating.

Quebec City is also one of the most romantic destinations in North America. Historic architecture and cobblestone streets, particularly in Old Quebec, feel like a journey back in time. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcasing stunning 17th and 18th-century buildings, quaint shops, and picturesque streets, creating a romantic ambiance for couples to explore together.

The city's location along the St. Lawrence River offers stunning views, especially from high points like the Terrasse Dufferin, which provides sweeping views of the river and the iconic Château Frontenac. Take a stroll while enjoying the scenery or watching the sunset.

I think the Château Frontenac is one of the most iconic hotels, and possibly the most recognizable symbol of Quebec City. Its grandeur and historic elegance make it a perfect romantic setting. I love the spa services!

Don't forget to check out the the shops at the Old Port. Winter Carnival (Carnaval de Québec). for snowshoeing, and you might as well explore the Ice Hotel (Hôtel de Glace). Oh, and a romantic boat cruise on the St. Lawrence River to cap your visit. :)

Rovaniemi, Finland

Rovaniemi, Finland

Don't you wanna meet Santa Claus? It's Santa's official hometown!

Rovaniemi transforms into a picturesque winter wonderland during the Christmas season. Visit Santa Claus Village, where you can meet Santa himself year-round and send postcards from the Santa Claus Post Office. This charming village is a sweet little place for families and couples.

Did you know that Rovaniemi is located within the Arctic Circle? That makes it a prime spot for observing the mesmerizing Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). During the Christmas season, the area's dark skies provide an epic backdrop for this natural phenomenon.

Take a ride through the snowy forests, pulled by stunning huskies or the gentle reindeers, giving you an authentic taste of the local traditions. Stay at the Igloo hotel or a glass-roofed cabin, where you can lie in bed and gaze at the stars or the Northern Lights without leaving the comfort of your room.

Scotland Christmas

Scotland

Yes, Scotland can be an incredibly romantic Christmas destination. Edinburgh's stunning medieval architecture and historic significance make it a compelling visit. The Christmas market is filled with bright multi colored lights, handcrafted gifts, and seasonal treats. The backdrop of the Edinburgh Castle illuminated at night adds to the atmosphere.

Scotland's natural beauty is amplified in winter. The snow-capped Highlands, tranquil lochs, and rugged landscapes create a picturesque Christmas setting. Scenic drives through the Highlands or cozy walks in nature can be a highlight for couples.

The Castles are everywhere, and several host Christmas events plus they are beautifully lighted at night. Scotland is famous for its Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) celebrations, which often include lively street parties, and fireworks.

Christmas In Scotland

Scotland's rich history, stunning landscapes, and holiday spirit, offers a romantic backdrop for couples during the Christmas season. Whether exploring charming towns, cozying up in a luxurious lodge, or participating in local traditions, Scotland provides a unique holiday experience filled with magic and romance that is hard to match.

North Carolina

When I say North Carolina, I really mean the Blue Ridge, and specifically the areas encompassing Blowing Rock, Boone, and Banner Elk. The scenic overlooks on the winding mountain roads of the Blue Ridge Mountains take my breath away every time. Plenty of cozy cafes, boutique shops, and art.

Grandfather Mountain

If you are inclined there are winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding at places like Sugar Mountain Resort and Beech Mountain Resort. Drive a little way to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville while you are at it as they have one of the very best holiday light displays. The Blue Ridge Mountains are renowned for their wineries and craft breweries. Wine tasting at local vineyards or while sharing a cozy outdoor meal with mountain views is a sacrifice I might be willing to make..

Country music lovers may want to check out this blog post as Nashville, Dollywood, Branson among several others are still good bets for the holiday.
