George Strait Wins The Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award
King George Strait continues to make us fans smile and cheer with glee on his mounting accomplishments. Just this past year, he was awarded his Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star. He also set a new Guinness Book World Record for the largest crowd at a ticketed event. Impressive, especially when you consider that The King is semi retired!
But I guess he is just an over achiever as now the Country Music Association will rightly bestow their highest honor on the Texas Troubadour on Nov 20th, 2024 during the 58th Annual CMA Award show. The Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award is given to country music artists that have reached the pinnacle of success across sales, philanthropy, and overall cultural impact. Past recipients are a literal who's Who in country music such as Dolly, and Willie, the award's namesake.
I've had George's latest album Cowboys & Dreamers on repeat since it came out. The King sounds great, and still puts on a good show.
George holds multiple Guinness Book World Records as explored on these pages in previous blog posts. It is easy to see why he is one of a handpicked few in country music that was awarded a Medal of Arts, the highest honor in the arts chosen, and bestowed only by the President of the United States.
George Strait's enduring influence and impact is undeniable.
From Hip Hop artist David Morris to American Idol Alumni Scotty McCreery, they have all credited George as a formative influence. Not to mention the over 60 songs that name drop the king like this brand new one from Blake Shelton impacting country radio right now..
The King reminds us why we fell in love with country music in the first place. It's the tears, the cheers, the pain, the everything rolled up in 3/4 time and served in a familiar key that unlocks the vault of memories, hopes and dreams.
Though I truly enjoy all the new sounds in country music, there is something about the classic sound that warms my heart. Especially the love songs which King Strait has mastered over the years.
I appreciate always knowing what to expect when I pop the plastic off of a George Strait album.
I expect songs that are going to take me back home. Songs that make me feel love and warmth. Songs that talk about a way of life I still honor, and respect. I expect to smile, and feel grateful as the best is yet to come. King George is keeping country classy. From the tip of his Resistol hat down to the shine on his Justin Boots.
His dedication and perseverance continues to bear fruit. It’s a great day for music as George holds the record for the most number ones in a single genre. That’s right. Let the winds of fortune continue to fill your sails, congrats King, and cheers..
